Urban Flash

48 Hour Challenge

By 12th May 2017 No Comments

For photographers and authors

To get us in the mood for National Flash Fiction Day, we’re running a flash challenge this weekend for both photographers and authors. So get those fingers poised over shutter-button and keyboard, take the creative thinking caps off the peg and have some fun this weekend scribbling and snapping. We’re looking for literal representations, lateral thoughts and creative interpretations; let your imagination run riot. And if you’re a photographer who has a yearning to write, why not have a go? Likewise, any author with access to a smart-phone or camera, why not upload a pic or two? We’d love to see those creative energies cross-pollinating …

@Photographers

Your prompt is from Geoff Nicholson: “Mirrors, windows, reflections, mirages: who can tell the difference? Who needs to?”

  • Respond to the prompt photographically.
  • Upload your image(s) to our Flickr Group and ensure you use the tag PROMPT48.
  • Or you can email a low-res jpeg to info@tprol.co.uk with PROMPT48 in the subject line.
  • Each photographer can enter up to three images, either as independent entries or as a short series.
  • If you are submitting a series, please make this clear in the description.

@Authors

Your prompt is the image above – N16 Wall Decorations – from wpnewington.

  • We’re looking for a piece of flash fiction (between 100 and 750 words) or a poem inspired by this image.
  • Copy your text into the body of an email to info@tprol.co.uk. Please put PROMPT48 in the subject line.
  • Each photographer can enter up to three texts

General

  • All entries should be submitted before midnight (UTC) on Sunday.
  • Each participant will receive feedback on at least one of their submissions.
  • We have four book prizes for our judges’ picks.
  • Our favourite submissions will be published on the TPRoL website.
  • Participants can enter both the author and the photographer challenges.
  • Flash Weekend is not part of the main Urban Flash project, but it’s a great chance to get into training for the main event in June.
